This two-course sequence is an introduction to the fundamentals of the Spanish language offering opportunity in the classroom, using real-life situations, for the development of abilities in listening and speaking. Reading and writing skills will be conducted primarily outside of class but integrated with the listening and speaking focus of the course. The course is designed for students who have had none to one year of Spanish in high school, or equivalent for SPA 101 (Fall semester), and one and a half to two years or equivalent for SPA 102 (Spring semester). New students will take a placement evaluation during orientation or on the first day of class in order to be placed in the most appropriate level.
