Application of thermodynamics and fundamental heat transfer concepts to power and refrigeration cycles and their components, with a focus on cycle modifications to improve efficiency. First and second law analysis of gas and vapor power and refrigeration cycles. Design and selection of heat exchangers. Radiation and multimode heat transfer. Thermodynamics of ideal gas mixtures with application to gas-vapor mixtures and combustion. Spring semester. Prerequisites: EGR 330 and EGR 331.
