This performance-based course is designed for pre-service teachers to enhance their knowledge of fundamental processes, philosophies, beliefs, objectives, desired outcomes and professional standards involved in the teaching of literacy development. This course focuses on best practices in language and literacy for the developing child ages pre-natal -8 years old. The influence of current research and theories on practices in reading are studied. Particular attention is given to the reading process. Insight into meeting the needs of all children including multi-cultural children and exceptional children will be stressed.
