For about a thousand years, Muslims ruled over non-Muslims in the Indian Subcontinent. Students taking this course will explore what happened when rulers practiced a faith different from that of their subjects, and in particular when that faith in question was Islam. In order to learn about this unique historical phenomenon, students will study scholarly work on the subject, as well as explore European travel accounts from the period, to come to their own conclusions on the issue.
