This course is a continuation of MOD 101 and provides level II, instruction in modern dance. Principles learned in term I will be reinforced and students will learn how to adapt them to a wider range of movement. Prerequisites: MOD 101. Course Objectives Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to: (1) Modify and apply variations to the following basic modern dance concepts and principles: spinal suppleness; practical use of opposition; effective use of effort; movement stabilization and breathe support for developing strength, stamina and agility; dynamic use of central axis for balance, suspension, weight shift, fall and recovery; movement organization. (2) Modify and demonstrate varied approaches to basic presentation and performance skills. (3)Organize and execute class material with musical acuity. (4) Develop skills for self-evaluation of class work. (5) Identify a selection of the major figures in modern dance. Cultivate an aesthetic awareness of the breath of history of modern dance through current trends.
