This course is an introduction to classical and neoclassical ballet repertoire focusing on the technical, stylistic, musical and artistic standards of each work. Classes will culminate in an informal performance at semester end. Prerequisite: Sophomore standing. Course Objectives Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to: (1) The student will be proficient in the proper use of alignment, placement, oppositions and turnout while executing the technical range of repertoire. (2) The student will further develop precision, strength, core strength, endurance, and flexibility while performing repertoire. (3) The student will develop a better understanding of the flow of energy needed to execute classical lines and classical port de bras while performing repertoire. (4) The student will further develop the proper use of head, epaulement, and focus in pointe technique. (5) The student will develop personal style with the use of expression, music interpretation, movement phrasing, and focus. (6) The student will implement change (the application of corrections) through observation and practice. (7) The student will demonstrate a sense of discipline and appropriate attitude for the class and group environment. (8) The student will increase his/her intellectual awareness of the field through assignments.
