Prerequisites: All 100-level CJS courses.This research-based course introduces the basic principles and issues imperative to understanding the application of the scientific method to research in the criminal justice field. This course exposes students to the various types of criminal justice data such as the Uniform Crime Report, victimization surveys, court & prison statistics, evaluation studies, and agency reports. This course requires students to apply their knowledge of statistics to gain a deeper understanding of its application to social science research methodology. The student will become well-versed in computer based analyses of criminaljusticedata while examining the relationship between theory, hypotheses, and empirical research and differentiating between qualitative and quantitative methods.
