In this course, we will explore the value and ethical implications of using information graphics (infographics) in popular media to communicate complex technical information for general public consumption. We will investigate the rhetorical implications of repurposing data visually and analyze the ethical and practical outcomes of using such visualized data to sell products, market ideas, and encourage change. Students will learn how to research data from multiple sources; amalgamate that data into a comprehensible, accurate, and ethical statement about the data; and then produce their own persuasive and educational infographic using contemporary desktop publishing and design software.
