Description:
The students in this course will broaden their enjoyment of music and enhance their understanding of music by listening to a selection of major musical works from the standard repertory, applying basic principles of analysis and relating specific musical periods to the surrounding cultural milieu. Elementary music theory and it's relation to the piano keyboard will improve students' ability to read music and students will deepen their understanding of music by exploring the concept of musicality in performance. Students will learn to aurally recognize and comprehend the various elements of music that define style, genre, and period, and develop the vocabulary to discuss them.
