Description:
Students will summarize historical foundations, major legislation, and major court cases and current issues related to special education. It also allows students to formulate discussion points on the issues of the day. This is a seminar course. Students are expected to carry much of the discussion and demonstrate an understanding of laws and policies regarding referral and placement for students with disabilities. The professor's role will be to facilitate and at times, initiate discussion. The syllabus is extensive. It is prepared in a way that allows students an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the issues and controversies of the day. Offered fall and spring. 3 credits
