Description:
Student teaching includes two seven-week sessions of actual teaching at a level appropriate for the certification being sought. The experience is supervised by the cooperating teacher and the College supervisor. Student teachers simultaneously take EDU 493, Senior Seminar, and meet weekly on campus for seminar sessions and meet with their supervisor as a group. Student must apply for student teaching six (6) months prior to the start of the student teaching semester (deadlines are January 30th for fall and winterim placements and May 30th for the spring and summer placements). Grading procedures for the course are published in the Student Teaching Handbook. This course is graded as pass/fail. Prerequisites: Admission into the Education Division; completion of the sophomore, junior and senior field placements; attained a 3.0 grade point average, required clearances (PA Child Abuse, PA Criminal History, FBI Criminal Check, TB test); successfully completed all Praxis I and II exams. Offered fall, spring and summer. Variable 3-12 credits (consult with Director of Student Teaching to determine appropriate credits.
