A thorough treatment of the real numbers and metric spaces. Topics include countability, limit points, open and closed sets, compactness, connectedness, limit supremum and infimum, sequences and series, types of convergence, limits of functions, continuity and differentiation. Credit will only be given for one of MATH 6530 or MATH 6630. Students are expected to have completed a calculus of several variables course and an introductory proof course before enrolling in this course.
