This course offers a broad overview of the issues and circumstances that describe death, loss, and dying in or society. Topics include attitudes toward and preparation for death; the care of terminally ill patients; funeral rituals; burial, mourning, and grief practices; suicide and euthanasia. Readings and classroom activities will be supplemented by students' self-exploration and writing on feelings, attitudes, beliefs about death.
