This course examines how people learn language. Students will learn about the components of the language system (speech sounds, words, rules, etc.) and the fundamental stages and processes of acquiring that system, as well as the biological bases of language. The primary focus will be on typical first language development in children, but atypical language development and second language learning will also be discussed. Prerequisites: PSYC 201, PSYC 207, Junior status. Credit, three hours.
