The basics of cell structure and function, with an emphasis on molecular genetic processes, are studied in this course. The principles of molecular methods such as recombinant DNA techniques, the polymerase chain reaction and nucleic acid hybridization are also covered. The course concludes with an introduction to the molecular basis of cancer. Prerequisites: BIO 108/118 and CHEM 108/118 (all with a minimum grade of C). Knowledge of organic chemistry is highly recommended concurrent with BIO 340.
