Description:
This introductory literature course, especially recommended for Early Elementary (PK-4)/ Special Education (PK-8) majors, surveys a wide range of classic and contemporary children's literature. Students explore the historical development of this body of literature, the challenge of defining it, its roles as mirror and shaper of culture, and some of the resources and organizations available for those who teach literature to children. Students are encouraged to develop at least one special-interest paper on non-required texts. Prerequisite: ENG 101 (with a minimum grade of C) or placement into ENG 102.
