This course is designed to identify the universal truth of the spiritual dimension of human nature. The student will be encouraged to differentiate the spiritual dimension from religious practices, develop an awareness of the personal spiritual dimension, examine his/her personal spiritual dimension, reflect on spiritual development related to eight stages of man (Erickson), focus on the cultural aspect of spirituality and relate religious beliefs and legal issues. The student will use the nursing process as it relates to the dying child, the client with AIDS, the dying adult, the grieving family, and will investigate case histories in nursing which focus on spiritual needs of the client and discover the gift he/ she brings to the nurse-client relationship when spiritual needs are met. Open to upper level nursing majors, RNs and LPNs.
