This course is a survey of the field of strategic communication, the study of how organizations and individuals use communication to negotiate their role in society. The course provides students with a basic understanding of the following areas: 1) the strategic communication industry, including marketing and public relation firms, 2) the ethics and regulation of strategic communication, 3) the role of strategic communication in the process of marketing products, ideas and people as well as building relationships with organizational publics, and 4) the various components of strategic communiction campaigns and the associated professional specialties.
