Prerequisite: ENG 517 or ENG 502 or ENG 506 (may be taken concurrently). Critical theory of the 20th century in the context of current theoretical developments. Critical perspectives and schools may include: Structuralism, formalism, Marxism, New Historicism, feminism, African American theoretical thought, post-colonial theory, Deconstruction, and psychoanalysis as well as other theoretical positions. Students will have an opportunity to apply specific theoretical practices to literary texts. Scheduled irregularly. 3 credits
