Prerequisite: ANT 102 or ANT 205. An examination of the prehistoric archaeological record in Africa, from the earliest archaeological traces (approximately 2.6 million years ago) to the rise of the early African kingdoms. The most prominent sites, particularly in eastern and southern Africa, are featured. Recent discoveries and current debates within the field of Africanist archaeology will be highlighted. 3 credits.
