Description: This course comprises the making of photographic paper by mixing light-sensitive emulsions and applying them to quality drawing paper by hand. Photographic printing paper can be a rich material, capable of extraordinary tonal scale in and with a character of rare beauty. Some of the historic processes that are investigated include Cyanotype Prints, Van Dyke Prints, Gum Bichromate Prints, Salt Printing, Albumen Prints, Platinum and Palladium Prints. Later in the course students select one process with which to make a unified series of prints. Notes: Offered in spring. Lab Fee: $100. Prerequisite: ARTS 281.
