Intensive study of the basic principles of composition in Chinese, and training in the writing of expository essays for practical purposes. Closely supervised writing of weekly compositions, which may include translation of English texts into Chinese. Clarity, precision, correctness, and good organization emphasized. Topics selected by students in consultation with the instructor. Prerequisite: CHINESE 526 or 527 or the equivalent.
