This is the first course in a two-course sequence aimed at developing practical outcomes and working skills in the operation of theatrical sound systems and the design and production of content. The major components within a typical sound system for either playback or reinforcement of a live event will be discussed and demonstrated. In addition, the physiology and psychoacoustics of human hearing and the basic elements of the physics of sound will be introduced and their impact on theatrical sound will be examined. A practical lab experience will be included as part of this course.
