This course is intended to provide BUP and BS/US students, and interested others with an overview of basic economic concepts, and the application of these concepts to a broad range of urban and regional planning issues. Following the lead of the course textbook, this course seeks to help students understand the means by which urban residents can satisfy their desires and achieve their goals. This course focuses on how economic thinking can assist urban planning and urban studies students to better understand the consequences of alternative approaches to the interrelated topics of transportation, sprawl, infrastructure, zoning, education, racial separation, housing, and crime.
