This course provides an introduction to understanding urban America from a variety of view points. The course is designed to provide you with a framework for understanding and analyzing the political and economic aspects of American cities and how urban policy has changed with changing political and economic circumstances in our country and world. Questions such as 'How do cities really work?'; 'How can a person influence change in a city?'; 'Who makes things happen in cities?'; and 'Who benefits or doesn't benefit from the decisions made in cities?' will guide the discussions throughout the semester.
