Description:

Although major federal laws on disability discrimination existed before 1990, it was not until the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was passed that there was a comprehensive statute applying to virtually all aspects of an individual's life experience. The primary goal of this course is to introduce students to the major federal substantive law relating to rights of individuals with disabilities, primarily relating to nondiscrimination. Another important goal of the course will be to focus on the underlying philosophy of disability rights law.
