This course uses a multidisciplinary approach is used to examine the impact of human activity on various components of the natural world including vegetation, soils, water, the landscape and climate. Remedial and sustaining strategies for especially sensitive geographic environments are examined. Lectures will be supplemented by exercises to explore regional and global patterns of disruption. The emphasis will be on developing an understanding of key concepts and issues, and on encouraging critical thinking about human-created problems and solutions.
