This course provides extended study in Sculpture as a three-dimensional medium of expression. It builds on basic principles of sculpture and expands personal definitions and interpretations of contemporary three-dimensional art. It familiarizes students with more advanced tools, materials and techniques. Concepts of form, space/ time, scale, movement, surface, content and function are explored. Lectures cover historical and contemporary sculpture and artists as well as current trends in the discipline. Students formulate written proposals for a direction of their work and create a cohesive body of sculptural artworks. Research presentations, field trips, visiting artists, attendance at exhibitions and mounting exhibitions are a required part of the course. The format of this course includes both seminar and studio/lab components.
