Students engage with introductory work in the use of new media as a medium of artistic expression. This is a studio course in which students create works of art and study the practices of professional artists working in this field. Media to be explored may include a variety of digitally based practices including the creation of digital still images, work in video or animation, internet based work, the development of content for other interactive platforms, and other new forms of media. Specific focus may vary from quarter to quarter. Course activities include lectures, demos, student presentations, studio work, and critiques. The format of this course includes both seminar and studio/lab components.
