A concentrated survey that explores U.S. history from the Gilded Age in the late nineteenth century through the Progressive Era of reform, WWI, the 1920s, the Great Depression and the New Deal, ending with the conclusion of WWII. **COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES (CLOs) At the successful conclusion of this course, students will be able to: 1. Evaluate how the political, social, and cultural developments of American history from 1876-1945 have shaped modern American society and culture. 2. Analyze a wide variety of historical sources using historical thinking techniques developed in the course. 3. Communicate historical knowledge, arguments, and interpretations both orally and in writing, including through the creation of a major research paper. Prerequisite: ENGL 2010 (Grade C or higher).
