This course focuses on the Romantic movement in Spain. From a nuanced understanding of the late eighteenth century to a discussion of the 'death' of high Romanticism in 1844, the class centers on the political and historical context of liberal Romanticism with its emphasis on individualism, alienation, freedom, rebellion, national history and poetic genius.
