Part two of a two part series in the study of childhood development. In part two, emphasis is placed on how children from age 6-9 grow and develop in the physical, social, emotional, cognitive, language domains. An overview of each area will be provided based on course lectures, the text, observation reports, interviews and required readings. The uniqueness of the individual child is emphasized as are many forms of diversity, including developmental, cultural, gender, and socioeconomic diversity, and the interdepdence and interplay among various contexts in which children live and play. Students are expected to complete 10 hours of field experience II in settings for children ages 6-9 asisting with lessons/activities planned by the classroom teacher. Activies can include but are not limited to reading,'tutoring children in math and other subject matter experiences, conducting small group conversations, supervising outdoor play and monitoring classroom routines and procedures.
