Focused on the adaptation of novels into film, this course provides an introduction to Brazilian literature (including the work of Machado de Assis, Graciliano Ramos, Mario de Andrade, João Guimarães Rosa, Clarice Lispector, Chico Buarque de Hollanda, Paulo Lins) and to the rich tradition of Brazilian film (from Cinema Novo of the 1960s to its legacy and revision in contemporary filmmaking).
