Considers the following topics, among several others: the reasons for Europe's unprecedented world domination in the final third of the 19th century; responses to Western hegemony; the world wars in global perspective; the new nationalism of the 20th century; the rise of authoritarian and fascist regimes; independence movements and decolonization; cultural change and the assertion of women's rights; the Islamic revival; and the collapse of world communism.
