Views the social, intellectual, and artistic aspects of the period through the works of contemporary writers, dramatists, and artists such as Zola, Huysmans, Maupassant, Proust, Colette, Apollinaire, Toulouse-Lautrec, Cézanne, Picasso, Debussy, Diaghilev, Sarah Bernhardt, and Gertrude Stein.
