Subjects include ancient towns and planned cities, especially those of the Roman Empire; medieval commercial centers and cathedral towns; Renaissance plazas and baroque street systems; and 19th-century industrial, colonial, and resort cities. Emphasis on European and American cities. Discussion of London, Paris, and Rome throughout.
