Critical analysis of the history and discourse surrounding development with special emphasis on how the development process has affected women across the globe. Attention is paid to the often invisible connections between Western women and women in non-Western societies including the perspectives and experiences of women across the globe. Topics include globalization, women, work and poverty within a global society; women, development and health; women and the state; the global sex trade; and motherhood across the globe. Course meets multicultural graduation requirement. Cross-listed as SOCI 336. Prerequisite: junior standing.
