During the dynamic 16th, 17th and 18th centuries, the areas around the Atlantic rim were drawn into sustained interaction. This course includes such topics as Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, French, and English empires, interactions between Europeans and Native Americans, the development of the Atlantic slave trade, and the growth of merchant capitalism. Prerequisites of HIS 1 and 3 or permission of instructor is required.
