This course takes a mechanisms approach to evolution. The class begins with the Hardy- Weinberg principle and then examines the various processes that affect allele frequencies in populations over time, such as genetic drift, gene flow, natural selection, sexual selection, and mutation. Other topics are examined, such as speciation and systematics. Three hours lecture, three hours laboratory/discussion. Prerequisite of BIO 107 is required.
