This course is half of a one-year course in introductory astronomy. Topics include the celestial sphere, the solar system, planetary motion, configurations and phases of the moon, and eclipses. Same as PHY 9 without laboratory. Three hours lecture. Students taking this course in fulfillment of the Core requirements must take the course with the laboratory (AST 9A).
