Explores the philosophical, legal, and institutional traditions affecting black people as individual members of a group and participants in broader societies. Three lecture hours a week for one semester. Only one of the following may be counted unless the topics vary: African and African Diaspora Studies 320, 372F, 374, 374C, 374D, 374E. Some topics partially fulfill legislative requirement for American history. May be repeated for credit when the topics vary. Prerequisite: Upperdivision standing; additional prerequisites vary with the topic.
