Prerequisites: None. This course is an introduction to the Wolof language, an African language spoken by inhabitants of Senegal, Mauritania, the Gambia, and Mali. Its aim is to provide students with knowledge of the basic structures of the language to enable them to greet people in different settings, ask for directions and basic information, shop, and carry on a simple conversation. Students will develop communicative skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in cultural context. Grades are based on class participation, oral performance, and written examinations.
