Examines the use of development systems and microprocessors needed to become experienced in assembly languages, higher level languages implemented on microprocessors, and debuggers. Students learn to implement hardware and software to design complete systems. Hardware interfacing problems discussed include memory expansion and the addition of UARTS and PIAS to interface plotters, A/D and D/A converters, and robotic arms. Software tools such as assemblers and protocol converters are developed in a group project format. Prerequisite: ELEN 304 or CMPS 302.
