Covers practical design using MSI components. Topics include a review of flip-flops and counters; the design of sequential networks using next state diagrams; flip-flops; timing diagrams; state reduction and state assignments; iterative networks; arithmetic controllers and networks; asynchronous sequential networks; and derivation and reduction of primitive flow tables, races, and hazards. This course also covers the design of microsequential controllers using counters, selectors, and decoders. Prerequisite: ELEN 303, CMPS 200, or permission of instructor.
