Description:
Course designed to introduce students to the molecular structure and function of procaryotic cells, genetic mapping, and mechanisms of mutation, conjugation, transformation, transduction, and genetic recombination. Laboratory exercises involve the study of the properties and structures of DNA, the analysis of a genome segment, polymerase chain reaction, DNA sequencing, DNA fingerprinting, and the cloning of phage DNA into E. coli cells. Prerequisites: BIOL 232, CHEM 340, and 342.
