Examines Principles of chemical evaluation and regulations with regard to specific uses in human beings and animals as well as chemicals applied in the home and workplace, and the outdoor environment, including lawns, forests, and agriculture. Also examines major ethical approaches, pre-clinical and clinical trials of drugs, post-market monitoring, pesticide approval, and re-registration. Includes principles of risk assessment and risk management. Discusses nature, strengths, and limitations of drug and chemical laws and policies. Includes testing approaches and evaluation processes. Approved for both letter and S/U grading. Prerequisite: At least one semester of physiology (MCB 103, MCB 240, or equivalent), and biochemistry (MCB 354 or MCB 450 or equivalent) or consent of instructor.
