It looks at the historical evolution and contemporary challenges of cities in selected world regions and countries, linking urban development to broader social, cultural, political, economic and environmental issues in the region. Readings, films, lectures, individual research and discussion will be used to explore the complex and important roles of cities in regional development. The featured regions will include, but not be limited to: Eastern and Central Europe, Eurasia, Southeast Asia, South Africa, Mexico, and Central America.
