Description:
A digital photography class in which images are acquired using a digital or film camera and a 35 mm film and/or flat bed scanner. The objectives of this class are to become proficient in using digital photographic techniques and to understand the aesthetic and conceptual implications of this medium. Assignments vary from multiple composite imaging (collage), straight photography, photo animations, panorama images and a final project of your choice. Every assignment will be introduced with slides show presentations, screenings and technical demonstrations. The primary software packages you will use are Adobe Photoshop. At the end of the semester students will have a portfolio of 20 to 25 digital prints, a "virtual" electronic slide show, a web page and an interactive sequence (the latter two can be created if the student has some experience designing web pages or interactive movies). This is an invaluable class for anybody (professional or amateur photographer) who wants to learn how to take better composed and more interesting photographic images and a consistent high quality archival output from their home computer or laptop. Prerequisite:130 or 160. For a syllabus and work samples see: http://napolitano.georgetown.edu/nap_classes.html
