Introduction to improvisation techniques for jazz instrumentalists. Use of modes (major & melodic minor), symmetrical scales, and arpeggios in improvisation. Emphasis on the development of an idiomatic jazz style through the transcription and analysis of recorded solos by jazz masters. Prerequisite: MUS 1033. A-F grading only.
