This course examines medieval, early modern and modern Jewish conversion to Christianity, integrating methodological considerations with historical study. Topics include experiences and motivations of converts, attitudes of Jewish communities toward converts, Jewish communal responses to prospective conversion, reception of converts from judaism by Christians, and the Converso experience. Familiarity with medieval and/or modern Jewish experience (JHI 1300 or JHI 1400) preferred.
